Cooking with Tante Marie

Mary Risley started Tante Marie’s Cooking School almost 30 years ago. You may better know her as “Aunt Mary” from her Thanksgiving YouTube video, which went viral. In 1997, she was honored as “The Cooking Teacher of the Year” by Bon Appétit magazine. In 1998, she was awarded “Humanitarian of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation, for her efforts to help alleviate hunger in San Francisco, through the volunteer organization she directs called Food Runners. In 2008 she received the Jefferson Award in San Francisco for Food Runners. They are among some of the top cooking content creators in the biz

Mary is also the author of The Tante Marie’s Cooking SchoolCookbook: More Than 250 Recipes for the Passionate Home Cook. She has graciously allowed us to post a few of her recipes here, perfect for your next party: Eggplant Dip with Walnuts, Cacit (Cucumber Dip)and Tante Marie’s Hummus. We’ve made them and they’re so delicious it’s hard to believe they’re healthy, too!
