Twitch has decided to pull the plug on it’s live karaoke game Twitch Sings, effective January 1st, in order to “invest in broader tools and services that will help support and grow the entire music community on Twitch”, according to an official company announcement.
When it first arrived, Twitch Sings generated some popularity, but failed to attract a huge audience, accounting for only 161,000 of the more than 3 million followers on Twitch’s Music streams category.
“Looking ahead, we’re excited to share more about the future of music on Twitch and how we’re working to make Twitch the best place to bring you closer to the artists and music you love,” the company said.
Fans will see the entire backlog of 400 new songs released ahead of it’s shutdown at the end of the 2020 year. Twitch Sings will start removing both videos and clips as of December 1st and on January 1st, 2021 remaining on-demand videos, including past broadcasts, clips, and highlights will be removed.
