Felicia Day Launches Twitch Series ‘WomenR’

Actress and gaming personality Felicia Day has launched a brand new series on Twitch called ‘WomenR’ which will aim to highlight diversity among creators and content in a broad spectrum of entertainment fields, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Visibility equals possibility for me,” Day said, per the article. “So you never know when you’ll stumble upon someone who really inspires you to take a leap in designing a board game or becoming a voiceover artist — it’s so important to be exposed to it, because often ideas don’t occur to us as people unless we sense the possibility of it.”

Day has been already running one of the visible twitch channels on the Amazon-owned platform for the passed six years, and has been followed by content creator journalists within the industry.

“This particular idea resonated with them because they’re really trying to promote diversity — not just on their platform but in the world — so it was exciting for me because part of my career has been trying to groundbreak, trying to change the way people see women in the geekier space and creative fields.”

“This is an opportunity for me to not only highlight, but also learn from other women in different areas, and hopefully inspire other people to pursue careers in those areas.”

The series will be an eight-episode title that will feature four guest each week that will discuss topics and delve into the challenges they face in their specific industry, which Day described as “frank and funny discussions” about what women go through in their respective fields.

Day has seen shifts in regards to the current diversity of the gaming industry and for women streamers as well.

“I certainly think we’re moving forward into a better place,” Day said. “I’ve seen a big shift into having more diverse storytelling, but I feel like the cliches still abound, and a lot of the people who are gatekeepers are very much locked into reinforcing cliches because they’re comfortable for audiences.”

WomenR officially kicks off on September 28th on Day’s official Twitch channel.
