Twitch has been on a mission to improve it’s platform, mainly the user and streamer experience, and empower their battle against harassment, hateful conduct, and toxic behavior.
According to Twitch COO Sara Clemens, the massively popular streaming platform will ban the words “simp,” “incel,” and “virgin”, when they are used as an insult, starting on January 22nd, 2021, as first reported by Esports insider Rod Breslau.
Clemens announced the new policy during the company’s town hall earlier this week, and a spokesman for Twitch commented on how the company will approach the difficult task of enforcing the new rules.
“We will take action against the use of terms like ‘simp,’ ‘incel’ or ‘virgin’ specifically when they are being used to negatively refer to another person’s sexual practices,” the spokesperson said, according to The Verge.
Additionally, Twitch is also “proactively denying” emotes that include all three of these terms
