GameStop ‘Temporarily Pauses’ Unlimited Used Games Program

Video game retailer giant GameStop has has suspended its PowerPass program. The program offers customers six months of unlimited access to used games and was an exciting element for it’s consumers that allowed them to treat the store as a kind of library for games.

“We have elected to temporarily pause the roll out of the new PowerPass subscription service, based on a few program limitations we have identified. We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service,” a GameStop spokesperson stated to Kotaku.

“For those guests who have already purchased the service, we will allow them to bring the pass, and video game they have checked-out, back to receive a full refund,” said the spokesperson. “In addition, we will allow them to pick out any Pre-Owned game for free.”

GameStop has not provided a reason as to why the program was paused but according to Kotaku some employees believe some of the company’s antiquated computers weren’t equipped to handle it.

GameStop has not indicated if and when the program would be returning.
