Pokemon Games Announced For Nintendo Switch

The wait is over for Pokemon fans and Nintendo enthusiasts. During a special press conference, the Pokemon Company International announced two Pokemon games would be coming to the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 16 – “Let’s Go, Pikachu!” and “Let’s Go, Eevee!”

“Let’s Go, Pikachu!” and “Let’s Go, Eevee,” is based on the Pokemon Yellow entry of the series. According to footage from the trailer, trainers will journey through Kanto with either Pikachu or Eevee by their side. Similar to the first generation of Pokemon games, it appears these titles will have trainers catch wild Pokemon, encounter gym leaders and battle Team Rocket.

While some trainers would have probably preferred the announcement of a new game in the franchise, Pokemon Yellow is among the beloved titles in the first generation of games. What made it different than Red and Blue is it was based more on the anime and trainers could catch a Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur without having to trade Pokemon.

Although the new titles are based on Pokemon Yellow, once difference is players did not have Eevee as a starter Pokemon.

While these new titles are based on “Pokemon Yellow,” they introduce numerous new features. Players can use the joy-con to throw their Pokeballs. Two trainers can play simultaneously on the screen – something that has never been done in the games.

The game also connects with Pokemon Go. Trainers who play the mobile game can transport them to the Go Park on the switch.

The trailer also introduced a Pokeball joy-con where trainers can use it in the game and connect it to Pokemon Go. Trainers can also transport Pokemon to the Pokeball and take it outdoors with them. For example, a trainer, over 21 years old, can put Pikachu in the Pokeball and travel to their favorite pub.

The final mystery was the special Pokemon referenced at the end of the trailer. On social media, the company confirmed it was a Pokemon that has never been seen in a previous game.

The company also announced “Pokemon Quest,” for the Nintendo Switch.

According to the company’s Twitter page, Pokemon Quest will be a free-to-start game. Trainers of all ages will get to face off against wild Pokemon, as well as befriend them, and find hidden treasure on Tumblecube Island.

Trainers will customize a Pokemon’s characteristics and use power stones to strengthen them. It’s a cool concept and trainers who have longed for a way to customize their Pokemon now have a mechanism to do that.

Trainers will who were looking forward to a new title in the core series shouldn’t feel left out. The company plans to release a new core title to the Pokemon franchise in the second half of 2019.

This announcement has been a long time coming for Pokemon fans. Although these new titles focus on Kanto Pokemon, it is going to be a new experience for longtime fans. It is also a cool way to bring new players to the game.

Hopefully this announcement is the first step in more Pokemon games coming to the Switch.
