Fortnite continues to bite creative/intellectual property from others and using it in dance emotes in it’s game and this time Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton in the popular Fresh Prince of Bel-Air television series, is taking Epic Games to court for it.
Ribeiro is suing Epic Games for using his famous dance, the Carlton dance, without permission or compensation, much like rapper 2 Milly has done in the past.
According to TMZ, Ribeiro is in the process of claiming copyright for the dance, which is interesting as it is hard to obtain a copyright for a dance, and could be challenging to achieve.
Still, with Epic cracking down on leakers recently, it’s kind of hypocritical to act in the manner that they have in regards to their dance emotes, with their blatant disregard for those responsible for creating it, and not compensating those behind it’s creation.
“Epic has earned record profits off of downloadable content in the game, including emotes like ‘Fresh.’ Yet Epic has failed to compensate or even ask permission from Mr. Ribeiro for the use of his likeness and iconic intellectual property,” said Ribeiro’s attorney, David Hecht.
