Nintendo is set to acquire Canadian developer studio Next Level Games, who was behind their smash hit Luigi’s Mansion, according to an official announcement.
Based in Vancouver, Next Level Games already works closely with Nintendo on a number of their major franchises, and is already a second-party partner. Nintendo says the acquisition of Next Level Games will help secure internal development resources and boost collaboration.
Next Level Games is best known for their work on Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Luigi’s Mansion 3, which is one of the most impressive games on the Nintendo Switch console.
The studio was also behind titles such as Super Mario Strikers on the GameCube and Wii, Metroid Prime: Federation Force for the Nintendo 3DS, and the Wii version of Punch-Out.
While no financial details were mentioned in the announcement, the acquisition is expected to be completed by March 1st, with Nintendo buying out 100% of Next Level Games’ shares.
