Youtube streamer Dr Disrespect made his name, and build his highly successful brand, streaming on Twitch, but things came to a sudden halt during the Summer of 2020 when Doc was mysteriously perma-banned from the platform.
Fast forward to more than a year later, and Doc is not only in the process of suing Twitch, but is also discussing the lost revenue he suffered as a result of the ban that he just recently discovered was based on.
“I make probably a fourth, a quarter, of what I was making on Twitch,” Dr Disrespect said (h/t ComicBook).
“A lot of people think ‘Doc, you’re doing great, you’re incredible.’ Listen, we’ve certainly tried to maximize most of what we have to work with… but the Twitch ban has really affected us, not just from a financial standpoint but from a networking standpoint. With all the relationships we’ve built over the past five years, in terms of Activision and EA, all the big sponsors and all the big partnerships have to question — ‘Why did you get banned’?”
Doc went on to confirm that he’s been “blacklisted” and “shadow banned”, and despite his pushing through the challenges says the experience has been “disheartening” and “a rollercoaster of emotion”, adding that “it absolutely f*****g sucks.”
