Markus Kjærbye Announces Departure from North

esports news

Counter Strike: Global Offensive star Markus Kjærbye has officially announced that he will be departing North following a break from competition he took back in May of this year.

Kjærbye burst onto the scene when he helped Astralis win their first Major back in 2017 at the ELeague Atlanta Major, but departed to join North over a year following, proving to be a risky move for Kjærbye.

Kjærbye had performed well for North, but never reached the same heights he did while with Astralis.

Earlier this year in May, Kjærbye took a break from competition to focus on his health.

“I’ve been really happy at North, but it has also been a bumpy road with many changes, and I feel that this break has made me see more clearly,” Kjærbye said, on his official Twitter page.

“Currently, I still need some time, but I know I’m far from done with CS. This is what I know, and I look forward to my next adventure.”

North issued the following statement on Twitter, accompanied by a more detailed statement on their website: “Today Markus and North have decided to part ways. A true legend in and out of the game. We wish you nothing but the best!”

“Although we are not where we want to be in CS, we start to see great improvements and we feel we have the core in place with the sports management and players that will reignite the ambition and put North back where the organisation belongs” — Christopher Håkonsson, CEO, North
