During The Fancy Frontier manga and anime expo held in Taipei last weekend, a female cosplayer allegedly exposed her private parts during a photo shoot, and thus contravened the Act on Offenses Against Sexual Morality, according to the Taipei Times.
The cosplayer was allegedly not wearing any underwear when she lifted up her skirt during an outdoor photo shoot near the venue.
Not only did she draw the ire of the organizers, but also the online cosplay community, who have reportedly been urging her not to do damage to the public perception of the cosplay community and artform, and could damage a cosplay organization or cosplay directory that she is associated with.
Since 2012, event organizers have implemented both rules and regulations regarding outfits worn by cosplayers inside the expo hall, citing an incident at the manga expo they held at National Taiwan University Sports Center years ago.
During the 2012 event, a Japenese cosplayer known as “50 horses” took off her skirt to expose her thighs and butt in an attempt to boost the sales of her comic products, organizers say.
Despite the incident that occurred last weekend, organizers can only regulate people that are inside the rented expo hall, and do not have regulatory power over private photography going on outside the evnue.
