The video game industry saw consumer spending take a 5% hit year-over-year during the month of June, to $4.6 billion, while also seeing content spending take a dip as well, at 2% which brought the number to $4.1 billion, according to Circana’s US charts for June.
From Software’s popular title Elden Ring was the best-selling game across PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam and was also the most played game on Steam according to Circana’s engagement charts for June.
Those engagement charts also showed Fortnite taking first place on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Additionally, Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece made a significant jump from #399 all the way to 3rd overall falling it’s successful launch on Steam after it had only been available to play as a cloud version on the Nintendo Switch console.
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance which debuted at No.4, followed by Luigi’s Mansion 2 at No.8 were the two new releases in June that made a notable impact on the charts.
Additionally, mobile spending grew by 12% year-over-year with a 4% increase in non-mobile subscription content, but this was offset by a 26% decline in content spending on console platforms, while hardware spending decreased by 37% to $287 million, while accessories dropped by 7% to $204 million.
PlayStation 5 was #1 in hardware sales, followed by the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S.
