Mobile development company Jam City has reportedly laid off 10% of it’s staff (around 85 people) who were made redundant last Friday on August 2nd, according to a confirmed report from Polygon’s Nicole Carpenter.
Carpenter also shared an email that was sent to Jam City staff by CEO Josh Yguado who said that the decision was attributed to the current market situation.
“After a challenging 2023, industry analysts predicted an upward trend for gaming in 2024,” Yguado wrote in the message. “While we have seen moderate improvements in some areas, the overall upward trend has not materialized as expected.”
Jam City reported “lower-than-expected game performance in several of [its] key titles,”, which include titles such as DC Heroes & Villains, Jurassic World Alive, and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.
Jam City had already laid off 17% of it’s workforce back in August 2022, impacting between 150 and 200 people, most of which took place in their subsidiary studio Ludia, which was acquired back in September 2021 for $165 million.
